TRY SOMETHING NEW

Saturday November 17, 2012

I was blogging last night. I was interested, inspired, fascinated and thoroughly engrossed in the blogs. I stayed mainly on blogs by crafters and scrapbookers because that is what I am mostly interested in. However, I did come across some blogs that were just people blogging about their life.   I decided to give it a whirl. Who knows, I may learn something.

About me....... I am in my 40's, quickly approaching 50. I have a grown daughter, Kelly, who is 30 and teaches 2nd grade.  I have 2 sons, Aiden who is 7 and Michael, who is 6. I also have another sort of son. His name is Austin.  Here is where it gets "complicated". My first relationship produced Kelly. When she was in college I moved on with my life without her father. I met "the cop" Mike a few months later and fell madly in love with him. Immediately. No doubt about it. I was 39 and he was .......much much younger. No one supported us and no one thought it would last. That was 9 years ago and two children later. Mike has a son from his first marriage, Austin. since Mike and I are not married I really cannot say that Austin is my step son. But no matter the situation he has been in my life since he was born and he is part of my heart like his brothers and sister so he is one of my boys. ♥

I work full time in the insurance business. I handle Workers' Compensation claims. I work from home. It's called teleworking. It allows me to be more flexable with my time at the desk so that I can be here to get the kids to school and home from school. I try to keep my hours to 8 but that rarely happens.

I have two passions, well three.  The first is my family. The second is anything involving paper. Altering things, making cards, scrapbooking our life, buying paper, sorting paper, smelling paper. I am a paper whore. Sorry but that is the sad truth. If my house ever catches on fire ...........

My third passion is gardening. I don't get to do it much these days because of space, cost and my body is no longer in the shape it needs to be for that back breaking labor but let me tell you......I have a green thumb!  My sons seem to be somewhat interested in gardening but we will see what happens as they get older. Maybe Aiden. Michael.....not so much the outdoorsy guy.

This photo was taken at the Arboretum in Lisle, IL. My sister Lynne took the kids last summer for the bee themed tour. The kids loved it and brought home some real honey. We made honey tea and honey sandwiches.

Speaking of my sister....I have 5 sisters. My oldest sissy, Leslie passed away 5 years ago this November. I miss her so much. She was quirky, she was fun, she was scatterbrained, she had this crazy laugh and she loved paper crafts. She had a wierd style but it was cool. I always see stuff on the blogs or on websites for scrapbooking and think what a shame that she is missing all this.

The other sissys are Nancy-She is the card making Queen. See her blog....scrapforles (dedicated to my sissy Leslie) then there is Lynne, also a scrapping/cardmaking paper crafting gal, then Janet and then finally little sis, Chrissy. Chrissy started everyone on this hobby after attending a Stampin' up party. Little by little everyone got into the craft and we all have different styles. I actually dont know what my style is yet. I keep trying different things. One of these days something will click and I will know what style I like and go with it.

Then there is this girl. The most beautiful girl in the world. My BFF.....Lola Bell. She is my 8 month old, 92 pound german shepard. She is a handful but she loves me no matter what and she makes me laugh.   She is not done growing yet and she gets smarter every day. Eating things she is not supposed to?  ...not so good.

Well folks....thats it for me for now. I will leave you now with a few cards that I made while trying to steal ideas from other talented crafters. I changed a few things to improvise with what I have in my stash. The product lines are City Sidewalks by Pink Paislee (one of my favorite lines..I have all of their paper lines) and Scrapcake's Cozy Christmas. I tried to copy a card on one of the designer's website but ended up with what you see. Anyway....Adios...Happy weekend!
